Julian, Versola claim top scores, lead teams to first-place finishes

Jacob Julian of Kamehameha Schools Maui posted the best boys prone, standing and kneeling scores on the way to winning the individual title in the second Maui Interscholastic League air riflery event of the year Saturday at the Baldwin range in Wailuku.

Julian had a 262 total. He shot 94 prone, with five bull’s-eyes, and had an 82 standing and 86 kneeling to help Kamehameha also take first place the team competition.

The Warriors, winners of the last two league titles, finished with 949 points, 15 better than second-place Baldwin.

The Bears’ Alan Brown was second individually with a 249, and King Kekaulike’s Quinton Uradomo (242) was third.

Maui High’s Shmily Versola was the girls individual winner, and the Sabers claimed the team victory as well.

Versola had a 255. Her 83 standing was the best of the day, and she had an 87 prone and 85 kneeling — she was the only girls shooter in the 80s in all three categories.

St. Anthony’s Jasmine Na­ka­moto was second with a 250, one point better than defending league champion Emi Sakumoto of Baldwin. Nakamoto had the best kneeling score, an 87.

Maui High had a team score of 964. St. Anthony was second at 951.

Alexis Viloria of Maui High had a 96 prone, with four bull’s-eyes, and her 221 total tied her for 21st place.
