Macedo posts day’s top score at ISA Junior Worlds
Lahaina’s Summer Macedo heads to today’s top score in the girls 18 competition of the International Surfing Association’s World Junior Surfing Championships in Hyuga, Japan. Macedo — who is seeking her second ISA junior world title in three years — had a 17.00, advancing to a third-round heat in which she will face Peru’s Lara Barrios, Japan’s Minori Kawai and Canada’s Mathea Olin. Maui has one other competitor in the third round — Wailuku’s Cody Young, in boys 18. Young won his second-round heat Monday with a 12.44. Lahaina’s Dante Silva and Haiku’s Logan Bediamol are in the second boys 18 repechage round. Silva won his first-round elimination heat today with an 8.06.
