Schweitzer bows out in ISA semifinals
Zane Schweitzer of Lahaina rides a wave en route to winning his heat in the third round of stand-up paddle surfing during the International Surfing Association World SUP and Paddleboard Championship on Thursday in Vorupor, Denmark. Schweitzer’s bid to repeat as champion came to an end with a third-place finish in the semifinals — he posted the best score of the first round Wednesday, then finished as a heat-runner-up in the second round Thursday. In the women’s competition, Annie Reickert of Pukalani bowed out in the third round. The event will resume Saturday with technical racing finals, with a field including Reickert and Lahaina’s Lara Claydon in the women’s competition, and Haiku’s Connor Baxter in the men’s event. Hawaii is fourth in the team standings. France leads, followed by Australia and New Zealand.
