Young

Cody Young of Wailuku helped Hawaii finish second in the Aloha Cup, an International Surfing Association World Junior Championships exhibition event, today in Hyuga, Japan.

Young, who will compete in the boys 18 final on Sunday, teamed with Oahu’s Wyatt

McHale, Brisa Hennessy and Robert Grilho and Kauai’s Sage Tutterow for a score of 51.59 in the final. Japan won with a 57.30.

In the individual competition, Young will be in the final with Australia’s Dylan Moffat and the top two finishers of a repechage heat that comprises Noah Hill, a Lahaina resident competing for the U.S. team, as well as California’s Cole Houshmand, Argentina’s Ignacio Gundesen and France’s Marco Mignot.

Young has finished first in five of his six heats so far.

Lahaina’s Summer Macedo is in the girls 16 repechage final with Hennessy, France’s Neis Lartigue and Japan’s Minori Kawai — the top two will join California’s Kirra Pinkerton and Costa Rica’s Leilani McGonagle in the final.
