Jaffurs claims Maui Amateur title in playoff

Isaac Jaffurs of Haleiwa, Oahu, won the Hawaii State Golf Association Maui Amateur title on Sunday, defeating Tyler Ota of Honolulu on the first hole of a playoff.

Jaffurs shot an even-par 72 at the Wailea Emerald Course to finish regulation at 2-under 142.

Ota, winner of the last two HSGA Player of the year awards, had a round of 70.

Honolulu’s Royden Heirakuji (76) was third, seven shots behind, and Wailuku’s Lana Calibuso-Kwee (74) was the top Maui finisher, placing fourth with a 150 total.

The tournament’s first round was played at the Wailea Gold Course.

Keith Anderson had the lowest score of the tournament, winning the senior division title with a 140 total — he had a second-round 71.

Dave Goode (69) was the senior runner-up, finishing one shot back.
