Rainbow Warriors picked to finish fifth in Big West

The University of Hawaii men’s basketball team was picked fifth in the Big West Conference preseason media poll released Thursday.

The Rainbow Warriors went 8-8, 14-16 overall, last season to finish fifth in the conference. They received two first-place votes and 146 points in the poll.

Defending regular-season champion UC Irvine was picked to win the Big West again, garnering 14 first-place votes and 216 points. UC Davis (189 points) was second, followed by Cal State Fullerton (158) and Long Beach State (153). UC Santa Barbara (94), Cal State Northridge (73), UC Riverside (71) and Cal Poly (70) round out the bottom of the poll.

UH hosts BYU-Hawaii for an exhibition game Nov. 3 before opening the regular season with SIU Edwardsville in the Outrigger Resorts Rainbow Classic on Nov. 11.
