Airline employees from across globe to play in Valley Isle volleyball event

Air travel employees from around the world are scheduled to compete in the Aloha 808 Cup volleyball tournament, which begins today with matches at Big Beach in Makena and will have indoor play Wednesday and Thursday at War Memorial Gym in Wailuku.

According to tournament organizers, Hawaiian Airlines workers will be part of Team Aloha, which will have players from other companies as well.

Matches are to begin at approximately 8 a.m. today, and 9 a.m. on the final two days.

Multiple teams are representing the United Arab Emirates, and Hong Kong’s Cathay Pacific will have two teams. Australia will have a Qantas team, and one from Airservices Australia, a company that provides air navigation service.

Europe will be represented by Lufthansa from Germany and Ireland’s Aer Lingus, as well as British Airways, Air France and Swiss International Air Lines.

Tournament organizers said the event takes place annually, at a different location each year.
