Hendrickson places third at HIC Pro

First photo: Tanner Hendrickson of Haiku competes in the HIC Pro on Thursday en route to taking third place in the World Surf League qualifying series event at Sunset Beach on Oahu. Hendrickson won a fourth-round heat, and placed second in the quarterfinals and semifinals. In the final, he had a score of 5.63, finishing behind Oahu’s Ezekiel Lau, who won the contest for a second time with a 14.16, and Australia’s Wade Carmichael (13.93).

Second photo: Cody Young of Makawao heads to a share of fifth place that earned him a spot in the Vans Triple Crown, which begins with the Hawaiian Pro later this month in Haleiwa. Two other Maui surfers reached the final day of the HIC Pro — Billy Kemper bowed out in the quarterfinals, and Dusty Payne was eliminated in the round of 32.
