Maui bodybuilders earn top finishes at Hawaiian Classic
Micah Ornellas-Vergara and Verndette Galapon pose Saturday after competing in the Shawn Ray Hawaiian Classic bodybuilding competition at The Modern Honolulu hotel. Ornellas-Vergara was one of eight competitors from Maui to earn a top-four finish, placing fourth in the men’s physique Class D. Johnny Avallone was the lone champion, winning the men’s bodybuilding heavyweight title. Sayge Edrada finished second in physique Class A. Taking third place were Travis Toda (lightweight men’s bodybuilding), Matt Ubilas (men’s physique Class C) and George Calaro (men’s physique masters 35 and over). Cheynice Ruidas was fourth in women’s figure Class B, and Bryson Pescado was fourth in men’s physique Class B. Other Maui competitors included Galapon, Shayla Mae Guzman, Jeri Hutton and Kim Reymundo in women’s bikini; Aldin Saba, Kyle Siangco, Mark Lee Calija, Jacob Havron, Lawrence Castillo and Shane Caldwell in men’s physique; and Thomas Ockerman in men’s classic physique.
