Rainbow Wahine earn first win

Makenna Woodfolk had 15 points and 15 rebounds, and Julissa Tago added 15 points as the University of Hawaii women’s basketball team picked up its first win of the season Sunday, 73-58 over Seattle University in Seattle.

Sarah Toeaina had 13 points and nine rebounds for the Rainbow Wahine (1-1), who led 30-27 at halftime and pulled away with five 3-pointers in the third quarter.

Tia Kanoa became the first UH player in 25 years to record 10 assists, and added four points, five rebounds and three steals. Tricia Stringman was the last Rainbow Wahine player to record double-digit assists when she had 12 against New Mexico State on March 8, 1992.

Alexis Montgomery had 16 points and Kamira Sanders had 12 to lead the Redhawks (0-2).

Hawaii plays its home opener Friday against Northern Arizona in the Bank of Hawaii Rainbow Wahine Classic.
