Rainbow Wahine to face Illini in NCAA first round

The University of Hawaii women’s volleyball team received an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament Sunday and will face Illinois in the first round Friday in Seattle.

In their first season under coach Robyn Ah Mow-Santos, the Rainbow Wahine are 20-7 and finished second in the Big West Conference at 14-2. UH is making its 25th straight appearance in the NCAA tournament, 36th overall.

Illinois (21-10) went 12-8 in the Big Ten this season and finished tied for fifth. The Illini and Rainbow Wahine will play at 3 p.m. HST.

The winner of Friday’s match will play the winner of the match between eighth-seeded Washington and LIU Brooklyn in the second round on Saturday.
