Today’s tourney planner
Marquette vs. VCU
9:30 a.m. • ESPN2
What’s up? Things get started with two teams coming off losses. Marquette lost to Purdue, No. 19 in the AP rankings, on Tuesday, while Virginia Commonwealth fell to Virginia on Friday. The Rams have won both of the teams’ previous meetings, in 1986 and 1987.
Wichita State vs. California
Noon • ESPN2
What’s up? The field’s top-ranked team, No. 6 Wichita State, will take on an opponent not getting a lot of early respect. The Shockers have averaged 95.0 points through their first two games. California won the teams’ only meeting so far, in the 1975 Lobo Invitational in New Mexico.
Notre Dame vs. Chaminade
4 p.m. • ESPNU
What’s up? Chaminade looks to snap a 14-game Maui losing streak. Notre Dame, which has won its three games so far this season by an average of 26.3 points, was the runner-up in its last Lahaina appearance, in 2008. The Fighting Irish beat the Silverswords in a 1993 Maui consolation game.
Michigan vs. LSU
6:30 p.m. • ESPNU
What’s up? Michigan is the only team in this year’s field with a Maui title, winning in 1985 and 1988. LSU wants to end an SEC trend — the conference’s representative has lost its first-round game five of the previous six years. The Tigers are 0-2 against the Wolverines.
