UH squanders second-half lead in loss to UNLV

LAS VEGAS (AP) — The University of Hawaii football team squandered a third-quarter lead in losing 31-23 to UNLV on Saturday.

The Rainbow Warriors (3-6, 1-5 Mountain West Conference) had gone in front 13-7 on Dru Brown’s 20-yard touchdown pass to Dylan Collie just over five minutes into the second half.

The Rebels, however, responded with 21 unanswered points — the first two scores in that stretch came on touchdown passes from Johnny Stanton, who also ran for a score in the first quarter.

Diocemy Saint Juste ran for 111 yards and a touchdown for UH. He has 11 career 100-yard games, second-most in school history — Gary Allen holds the record with 15.

Brown finished 24-for-47 passing for 269 yards. Collie had a career-high eight receptions for 85 yards, and Baldwin High School graduate Keelan Ewaliko gained 60 yards on four receptions. Ewaliko also totaled 39 yards on two kickoff returns.

Hawaii’s Teva Eldridge, another Baldwin graduate, had one tackle.

The Rainbow Warriors had 181 of their 400 total yards in the fourth quarter and moved to the Rebels’ 23-yard line before time expired.

Stanton was 18-of-26 passing for 244 yards. Brandon Presley had four receptions for 95 yards, including a 52-yard touchdown catch that gave UNLV the lead for good midway through the third quarter.

Lexington Thomas ran for 98 yards and a touchdown for the Rebels.
