Devault, Young bow out in fourth round at Sunset

Maui’s Imaikalani Devault and Cody Young were eliminated in the fourth round of the Vans World Cup on Saturday at Sunset Beach on Oahu’s North Shore.

Competing in the same heat, Devault (9.40) and Young (8.26) placed third and fourth, respectively, finishing behind California’s Conner Coffin (13.66) and Kauai’s Sebastian Zietz (10.80).

Coffin went on to win the World Surf League qualifying series event, defeating California’s Kolohe Andino (12.60) and Griffin Colapinto (8.17), and Australia’s Wade Car­michael (11.60) in the final.

The Vans World Cup was the second event of the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing. The final event, the Billabong Pipe Masters, is set for Friday through Dec. 20.
