Guzman places 2nd at Hawaii State Open

Reese Guzman of Kahului finished in second place in the women’s open division of the Hawaii State Open on Sunday at the Mauna Lani Resort on the Big Island.

Guzman, the Maui Interscholastic League champion from Maui High School and this year’s high school state runner-up, shot a 2-over-par 74 in the final round to finish the three-round tournament at 6-over 222 and won low-amateur honors.

Britney Yada of Hilo won the women’s open title at 6-under 210. Lacey Uchida, also of Hilo, placed third (228).

Honolulu’s Tadd Fujikawa won the men’s open title, edging Nick Mason of Wahiawa, Oahu, by one shot. Fujikawa shot a 5-under 67 Sunday to finish at 12-under 204.

Maui’s Justin Keiley (71) tied for ninth at 3 under.

David Ishii took the senior open title, Pat McGinness was the amateur champion and Nelson Domingo was the senior amateur winner.
