The University of Hawaii women’s basketball team used a closing 19-2 run to defeat Arizona 65-60 on Sunday in Tucson, Ariz.

The Rainbow Wahine trailed 58-46 with 6 minutes, 35 seconds to play before making the decisive push. Makenna Woodfolk scored seven of Hawaii’s 12 straight points, and UH tied the game at 58 with Sarah Toeaina’s jumper with 4:05 remaining.

Neither team scored again until Toeaina made one of two free throws with 1:31 left. Toeaina added a layup, and the Rainbow Wahine held on by going 4-for-4 from the free-throw line down the stretch.

Toeaina and Tia Kanoa finished with 14 points apiece for UH. Woodfolk added 12 points and Julissa Tago scored 11, hitting three of four 3-pointers — the Rainbow Wahine were 7-of-12 from behind the arc.

UH next plays in the Duel in the Desert tournament in Las Vegas, facing No. 19 Texas A&M on Wednesday and No. 9 Oregon on Friday.
