Lunas bounce back, beat Warriors

MIL BASKETBALL

The Lahainaluna High School boys basketball team bounced back from a nonleague loss to Iolani six hours earlier to record a mercy-rule 59-28 Maui Interscholastic League Division I win over Kamehameha Maui on Saturday night at Lahaina Civic Center.

Reece Pascua and Iverson Turno scored 13 points apiece to lead the Lunas (4-0) to the win. They led 20-5 at the end of the first quarter and put the game away with a 24-9 advantage in the third.

Kamalu Segundo led the Warriors (1-1) with 14 points.

In the first game of the day in the Lahainaluna Invitational, Iolani edged the Lunas 52-50 — Turno had 14 points to lead the Lunas and Aukai Kama added 12. In other tournament games, Palo Alto beat King Kekaulike 69-29, and Saint Louis beat Seabury Hall 64-46.

BALDWIN BOYS 56, MAUI HIGH 53

At Kahului, Mochi Dukelow scored 15 points and Chayce Akaka added 14 as the Bears held off the Sabers.

Baldwin outscored Maui High 23-8 in the first quarter and led 40-23 at the half before the Sabers rallied.

Akaka scored nine points in the second half, making two 3-pointers, to help the Bears hold on and improve to 1-2. Darius Pulgados added 10 points for Baldwin.

Kea Aguirre had 13 points and Fransver Castro had 12 for Maui High (2-2).

MAUI HIGH GIRLS 35, BALDWIN 30

At Kahului, Honey Let Padasdao scored 12 of her game-high 14 points in the second half as the Sabers (2-5) rallied to beat the Bears (0-6).

Baldwin pulled ahead in the second quarter and led 16-9 at halftime. Maui High closed to within 26-25 going into the fourth and held the Bears to just four points the rest of the way.

Melissa Caliva had 13 points and Alyssa Ordono had 10 for Baldwin.

SEABURY HALL GIRLS 44, LANAI 32

At Lanai City, Anaulei Tuivai scored 25 points as the Spartans improved to 6-0.

Ameera Waterford added 11 points for Seabury Hall, which trailed 12-4 after the first quarter, but led 21-17 at halftime.

Arriana Maltezo scored 11 points for the Pine Lasses (0-4), and Celine Romera finished with 10.
