Dusty Payne of Lahaina won the Men’s Pipe Invitational on Friday, earning one of two wild-card spots in the World Surf League Championship Tour’s Billabong Pipe Masters at the Banzai Pipeline on Oahu’s North Shore.

Payne, a former Championship Tour member, advanced through three rounds to make the final of the one-day Pipe Invitational. There, he posted a two-wave score of 12.00 to defeat Benji Brand (11.17), Seth Moniz (9.83) and Jack Robinson (2.37).

Brand also earned a spot in the Pipe Masters, the final stop of the season on the WSL Championship Tour and third jewel of the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing.

Payne will take on defending world champion John John Florence of Oahu and Brazil’s Wiggolly Dantas in the first round of the Pipe Masters. The next call is today at 7 a.m.
