Spartans top Farmers in double overtime

MIL BASKETBALL

The Seabury Hall girls basketball team narrowly extended its unbeaten start to the Maui Interscholastic League season Saturday, defeating Mo­­­lokai 41-40 in double overtime at Erdman Athletic Center in Olinda.

The Spartans, who used only five players, got a field goal from Ameera Waterford and free throw from Anaulei Tuivai in the second overtime to improve to 4-0.

Tuivai, the MIL Division II Player of the Year as a freshman last season, finished with 18 points — she is averaging 17.0 per game this season, best in the division. Waterford finished with 15 points.

The Farmers (0-2), who trailed 21-14 at halftime, out­scored the Spartans 9-4 in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 34. Each team scored four points in the first overtime.

Camille Ledesma scored 12 points for Molokai, while Mary Rose Ringor and Sydney Rawlins each had 10.

KING KEKAULIKE GIRLS 44, MAUI HIGH 40

At the Shine Izumi Athletic Center in Kahului, Temahh Shaw scored 15 points and Namahana Kaeo-Young added 12 as King Kekaulike fended off a comeback bid and improved to 3-2.

Brianna Guzman-Kee Chong scored 11 points for Maui High (1-4) — seven in the fourth quarter, when the Sabers outscored Na Alii 19-10.

MAUI HIGH BOYS 55, KIG KEKAULIKE 45

At Kahului, Fransver Castro scored 17 points for Maui High (2-0), and Kea Aguirre added 14.

King Kekaulike (0-2) got 11 points from Richard Chun. Kai Carbajal added 10.
