No. 3 Rainbow Warriors down No. 5 Anteaters in 4
Stijn van Tilburg and Rado Parapunov each had 21 kills to lead the third-ranked University of Hawaii men’s volleyball team to a four-set victory over No. 5 UC Irvine in both teams’ Big West Conference opener Friday night at the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu.
Joe Worsely had 47 assists and four aces, and Larry Tuileta added 14 digs for the Rainbow Warriors, who won 25-17, 22-25, 25-22, 25-16 despite coming off a three-week layoff.
King Kekaulike High School graduate Colton Cowell had two service errors on nine serve attempts for Hawaii (9-1).
Aaron Koubi had 17 kills and Karl Apfelbach added 14 for the Anteaters (10-4).
The teams play again Sunday.
