Barkley impresses as NFL scouting combine gets underway
Penn State running back Saquon Barkley runs the 40-yard dash at the NFL scouting combine Friday in Indianapolis. Barkley, who weighed in at 233 pounds, ran the 40 in 4.40 seconds and also posted a 41-inch vertical leap. In his analysis on NFL.com, Bucky Brooks wrote, “Given his character, leadership skills and production, it is quite possible Barkley leaves Indianapolis as the consensus No. 1 player in the 2018 draft class.” The combine’s first day featured running backs, offensive linemen and special teams players. Today, quarterbacks, wide receivers and tight ends are up. On Sunday, Lahainaluna High School graduate Hercules Mataafa, an All-American at Washington State, joins the other defensive linemen and linebackers in drills.
