Bears take down Sabers as MIL girls golf season gets underway


The Maui News – Jaelin Ishikawa shot a 36 to lead the Baldwin High School girls golf team to a season-opening 118-126 victory over Maui High on Tuesday at Kahili Golf Course.

Lana Calibuso-Kwee fired a 38 and Alexa Jackson added a 44 for the defending Maui Interscholastic League champion Bears. Katherine Swor’s 45 was dropped.

Maui High got a 37 from Reese Guzman, last season’s MIL individual champion and state runner-up. Emily Mitra had a 43, Jillian Ped had a 46 and Camryn Ban had a 54, which was dropped.

At Maui Country Club, Joy Callinan took medalist honors with a 38 to lead the Spartans to the win.

Seabury Hall also got a 42 from Summer Wong and 44 from Kelsie Sparks. Sofia Arashiro-Garcia’s 46 was dropped.

Hannah Valencia led the Lunas with a 39. Ashley Langaman had a 55, Alana Rose Duran had a 62 and Ciana Lins had a 63 (dropped score).
