Carter, Sabers shut out Na Alii
MIL BASEBALL
The defending state champion Maui High School baseball team ran its Maui Interscholastic League record to 2-0 with an 8-0 victory over King Kekaulike behind a complete-game seven-hitter by Trestan Carter on Friday at Maehara Stadium in Wailuku.
Carter struck out five and walked none and was 2-for-3 at the plate, including a triple and two runs scored. Haoa Jarnesky was also 2-for-3, while Kolten Texeira, Mikito Barkman and Micah Saki all had doubles for the Sabers.
Barkman knocked in two and scored a run, while Saki had an RBI and scored once.
Koa Hashimoto was 2-for-3 for Na Alii (0-2).
BALDWIN 13, LAHAINALUNA 2, 5 innings
At Maehara Stadium, the Bears beat the Lunas for the second straight day behind a one-hitter from Roy Meinen, who struck out two and walked two.
Baldwin scored eight runs in the bottom of the first inning and added three runs in the second and two more in the third.
Bubba Varner, Chayce Akaka, Jacob Chong and Haku Dudoit all had two hits for Baldwin (2-0).
Lahainaluna fell to 0-2.
SEABURY HALL 8, LANAI 0
At Eddie Tam Field, Kenny Belew threw six innings of one-hit ball while striking out 12 and walking four to lead the Spartans on opening day for MIL Division II.
Jack Almeida pitched the final inning, striking out the side for Seabury Hall.
Belew was 2-for-4 at the plate with a triple and three RBIs.
