Makenna Woodfolk had 27 points and Sarah Toeaina added 20, and the University of Hawaii women’s basketball team defeated UC Santa Barbara 73-64 on Thursday night at the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu.
The Rainbow Wahine trailed by as many as nine points in the first half before climbing back. Toeaina’s three-point play with four seconds left in the third quarter briefly gave UH the lead at 46-44, but the Gauchos scored the first seven points of the fourth to take back control.
Hawaii (12-16, 5-10 Big West) again battled back, and Woodfolk hit three free throws midway through the quarter to give UH the lead for good.
Sarah Porter led UC Santa Barbara (12-16, 9-7) with 17 points.
UH hosts Cal Poly on Saturday in the regular-season finale. The opening round of the Big West tournament is Tuesday in Fullerton, Calif.
