Saturday–The Maui Women’s Golf Championship, sponsored by the Josh and Souk Jerman Foundation, is set for Saturday at Maui Country Club. The 18-hole, gross-score tournament is open to Maui residents 18 years or older with established GHIN handicaps. April 1st handicaps will be used for flighting purposes only. The $65 entry fee includes cart fees, prizes and an awards luncheon at Maui Country Club after completion of play. Space is limited to the first 72 paid entries. April 14–The second annual Maui Humane Society Golf Tournament will be held April 14 at the Wailea Blue Course. The tournament will be a three-person scramble format and have a 7:15 a.m. shotgun start — check-in begins at 6 a.m. The tournament includes closest to the pin and hole-in-one contests, and will be followed by an awards luncheon at Manoli’s Pizza Company. The registration fee is $175 for an individual, $450 for a team of three. Sponsorship opportunities are also available. All proceeds from the event will benefit Maui’s shelter animals. April 14–The University of Hawaii women’s soccer team will hold a free clinic at the Maui High School soccer field on April 14. The clinic will run from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Registration is open to the first 300 Maui youths between the ages of 5 and 18. Registration and release forms can be found on ltgov.hawaii.gov.
• TENNIS
Wednesday–The USTA is offering youth tennis classes at the Eddie Tam courts in Makawao on Wednesdays starting this week. The fee for the six-class spring session is $39. Beginner classes for ages 12-14 are from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., for ages 6-8 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., and for ages 9-11 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Balls and racquets will be provided.
