The Central East Maui Senior League All-Stars (15-16) advanced to the West Regional after being awarded the state title by forfeit Friday.

CEM’s opponent for a best-of-3 state championship series, Nanakuli, made the trip to Maui but did not have enough age-eligible players to field a team.

Central East Maui, coached by Craig Okita, will open play in the West Regional at American River College in Sacramento, Calif., on July 19 against the Nevada state champions. The West Regional runs through July 25.

Teams from Central East Maui have advanced to the last two Senior League World Series — CEM lost in the U.S. championship game last season in the World Series in Easley, S.C.
