Vic-Maui leaders on pace to arrive today

After almost two weeks of racing, the competitors in the 2018 Vic-Maui International Yacht Race are expected to reach the finish line in Lahaina this morning after winds reached almost 20 knots.

At 2 p.m. Friday, Firefly was 147 nautical miles from the finish in Division 1, while Joy Ride was only 34 miles behind.

Although Firefly is leading the race for line honors, it owes Joy Ride close to eight hours of time allowance, and Joy Ride was about five hours ahead for the overall win, according to the race committee.

In Division 2, Salient had a 14-nautical-mile lead over Kraken with 333 nautical miles to go, followed by Turnagain (367), Anjo (475) and OxoMoxo (532). Division 2 competitors are expected to finish Sunday morning.

In the cruising class, Serenite was 527 nautical miles away.
