Bears open MIL season with wins over Warriors

Baldwin High School’s boys and girls bowling teams started the season off in a big way, defeating defending Maui Interscholastic League champion Kamehameha Maui on Saturday at Maui Bowling Center.

On the boys side, Baldwin defeated Kamehameha 2-1. The Bears’ Kainalu Torres-Estores led the way with high scores of 184 and 144. Teammate Dallen Silva posted scores of 145 and 139.

For the Warriors, Josiah Kaluau-Shimada had high scores of 185 and 164, and Bryson Reformina posted a 147 and 145.

In the girls match, Baldwin swept Kamehameha 3-0. Jailee Fujita led the way for the Bears with scores of 145 and 141. Teammate Alyssa Riglos posted scores of 139 and 138.

Nadia Apo-Takayama led the Warriors with a 150 and 138, while teammate Tahan Valdez bowled a 134.

In the other MIL matchup, Maui High’s girls team defeated King Kekaulike 3-0, while Na Alii’s boys team defeated the Sabers 3-0.

Maui High’s Erikah Dowells bowled high scores of 140 and 133, while Julianna Andrade posted a 134.

King Kekaulike’s Amanda Keanini-Higa posted a 151 and Mahiale Auctring had a 116.

For King Kekaulike’s boys team, Dillon Ikeda had high scores of 168 and 165. Gavin Brittain bowled a 156 for the Na Alii.

Donnie Archer bowled a 119 for Maui High and Isaiah Chee bowled a 117.
