Loewen makes 53-man roster for New Orleans; Tasini cut by Arizona

Mitchell Loewen, a Lahainaluna High School graduate, made the final 53-man roster for the New Orleans Saints on NFL cut day Saturday.

Last season, Loewen, a defensive lineman, became the third Maui Interscholastic League alum to make a final NFL roster when he made the Saints, joining Baldwin graduates Kaluka Maiava (Cleveland Browns) and John Lotulelei (Seattle Seahawks).

Loewen injured his ankle in the second game last season and missed the rest of the year.

He was originally signed as an undrafted free agent out of Arkansas in 2016, but missed all of that season with a lingering injury from his senior season as a Razorback.

Also Saturday, former Baldwin standout defensive lineman Pasoni Tasini was cut by the Arizona Cardinals. Last season after being cut by the Cardinals, he was placed on the practice squad — those 10 spots for the 2018 season should be doled out by Monday.
