Todd Richter of Pukalani and Byron Tabisola of Kahului each picked up wins at the Hawaii State Games Senior Pickleball Tournament, held Sept. 28-30 in Kalaheo, Kauai.
Richter and teammate Kevin Teves of the Big Island won the 60-64 age group in men’s doubles. They defeated Dean Fujikawa and Philip Baclayon 10-12, 11-6, 11-9 in the final.
Richter also placed third in mixed doubles. He and partner Patti Koyama of Oahu lost to eventual champions Veronica Wilkie and Ron Olen 11-2, 11-4 in the loser’s bracket final — Richter and Koyama had defeated Wilkie and Olen in the quarterfinals.
Tabisola and Mark Howard of Kauai won the 50-54 men’s doubles title as the only pair in the division. They competed against 55-59 players.
Tabisola also teamed with Janet Nathanson of Kauai to claim the bronze in 50-54 mixed doubles. They went 2-4 in round-robin play.
Both Richter and Tabisola qualified for the National Senior Games in Albuquerque, N.M., next summer.
