Spartans seeded second for Division II state tournament

The Maui News – The Seabury Hall girls volleyball team received the No. 2 seed for this week’s New City Nissan Division II State Championship, the bracket for which was released Sunday.

The Spartans (13-1), who last week on Molokai won their seventh Maui Interscholastic League title in the last eight years, will face either Leilehua or Le Jardin in a quarterfinal Thursday at the Kaimuki gym in Honolulu. The Mules (6-6) and Bulldogs (11-2) play a first-round match on Wednesday.

For its first-round match, MIL D-II runner-up Hana (12-4) will face fifth-seeded Waimea (11-1) on Wednesday at St. Francis. The winner then plays No. 4 Kaiser.

Mid-Pacific (13-2) is the top seed, while Kohala (14-4) is seeded third.

The state Division I tournament, the bracket for which was set last week, starts today with first-round matches across the state. MIL D-I runner-up Kamehameha Maui (8-5) hosts Moanalua (11-3), the third-place team out of the Oahu Interscholastic Association, at 5 p.m. at Kaulaheanuiokamoku Gym in Pukalani.
