Spartans to play for fifth place

Ella Connor had 15 kills and 13 digs, and Isabel Bennett added 10 kills and nine digs to lead the Seabury Hall girls volleyball team to a victory over Kohala in a Division II fifth-place semifinal at the New City Nissan State Championships on Friday.

The Maui Interscholastic League champion Spartans, who on Thursday lost to Le Jardin in the quarterfinals, defeated the Cowgirls 25-16, 25-22 in consolation play at the Kaimuki gym in Honolulu to earn a spot in today’s fifth-place match against Mid-Pacific — that match will be played at the Neal Blaisdell Arena.

Against Kohala (14-6), Seabury Hall (14-2) got 22 assists from Chiemi Powell, 10 digs from Nanea Andrade and six digs from Ki’i Rilveria.

Statistics for the Cowgirls were not available.

In the D-II consolation final, also at Kaimuki, MIL runner-up Hana rallied to beat Leilehua 18-25, 25-20, 15-10.

The Dragons finish their season at 14-5. The Mules dropped to 7-8.

In a Division I fifth-place semifinal at Moanalua, MIL champion King Kekaulike (14-2) saw its season come to an end with a 25-22, 27-25 loss to Kamehameha Hawaii (18-2).

Statistics for the Dragons’ and Na Alii’s matches were not available.
