Lau wins second Vans World Cup title

Ezekiel Lau of Oahu is carried off the beach after winning the Vans World Cup, a World Surf League Qualifying Series 10,000 event that is also the second stop on the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing. In pumping surf at Sunset Beach on Oahu’s North Shore, Lau had a two-wave score of 12.66 in the final to beat Brazil’s Jesse Mendes (7.63), France’s Joan Duru (7.33) and California’s Griffin Colapinto (4.67) and claim his second Vans World Cup title. The final Triple Crown stop — and the final event of the men’s Championship Tour — is the Billabong Pipe Masters, the holding period for which starts on Saturday.
