Bears edge Sabers for third MIL victory

MIL BASKETBALL

Kui Ross made four 3-pointers and finished with 14 points to lead the Baldwin High School boys basketball team to a 44-43 victory over Maui High on Saturday night at the Shine Matsui Athletic Center in Kahului.

The Bears scored just two points in the first quarter and trailed 25-16 at halftime but outscored the Sabers 21-5 in the third quarter to take control — Ross made three of his 3s in the period. John Werner then helped hold off the Sabers, scoring all seven of Baldwin’s points in the final quarter.

With the win, the Bears improved to 3-1 and took sole possession of second place in the Maui Interscholastic League standings.

The Sabers (2-2) got 12 points from JR Villon and 10 from DJ Sable.
