Bonofiglio, Mattos lead Sabers to win over Lunas

Melia Bonofiglio and goalkeeper Brooke Mattos each scored two goals to help the Maui High School girls soccer team defeat Lahainaluna 6-0 on Tuesday afternoon at the Sabers’ field in Kahului.

Dzana Alibegic and Therize Millare also scored for the Sabers, who improved to 5-3-0 in Maui Interscholastic League play.

The Lunas fell to 0-8-0.

With two weeks left on the girls league slate, Kamehameha Maui leads with 19 points — the Warriors can clinch a state tournament spot with a win over Baldwin today. King Kekaulike is second with 16 points and the Sabers are close behind with 15, though they’ve played one more game.
