Cowell leads UH to exhibition sweep of British Columbia
King Kekaulike High School graduate Colton Cowell had a match-high 10 kills to lead the third-ranked University of Hawaii men’s volleyball team to a 25-17, 25-17, 25-19 win over British Columbia in an exhibition match on Friday night at the Stan Sheriff Center.
Cowell, a redshirt junior outside hitter, started the match — the first of the year for the Rainbow Warriors — and also contributed two digs, a block, an assist and an ace.
Stijn van Tilburg added nine kills and Dalton Solbrig had six kills for UH, which outhit the Thunderbirds .291 to .098.
James Takken and Nick Mickelberry each had six kills to lead British Columbia.
Hawaii plays the Thunderbirds again today before starting the season with the Hawaiian Airlines Rainbow Warrior Classic on Thursday.
