UH sweeps USC to claim Rainbow Warrior Classic title

Rado Parapunov had 16 kills and Stijn van Tilburg had 15 as the fourth-ranked University of Hawaii men’s volleyball team swept past Southern California on Saturday night to win the Hawaiian Airlines Rainbow Warrior Classic at the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu.

King Kekaulike High School graduate Colton Cowell added six kills, hitting .545, to help the Rainbow Warriors win 25-12, 25-23, 25-16 and improve to 3-0 — all of UH’s wins have come by sweep. Cowell also had an ace, two digs and two blocks.

Gianluca Grasso led the Trojans (2-1) with 10 kills.

Hawaii doesn’t play again until hosting Stanford on Feb. 1 and 3.
