Run of Love 5K to be held Feb. 16

The inaugural Run of Love 5K is scheduled for 7:30 a.m. on Feb. 16 at Keopuolani Park.

The Valentine’s Day-themed race has both individual ($25 registration) and couples relay ($40) sign-ups.

The race is being conducted as the senior project of Kihei Charter School’s Gian Santiensanio in collaboration with the Valley Isle Road Runners and benefits Kihei Charter athletics.

Paia Bay Beachfest set for Jan. 19-20

The 22nd annual Paia Bay Beachfest is scheduled for Jan. 19-20 in front of the Paia Youth & Cultural Center.

The bodyboarding competition has eight divisions: menehune (under 14 years old, coed), juniors (14-17, coed), wahine (all ages), kane (all ages), drop knee (all ages, coed), soft-top shootout (under 18, boys and girls divisions), pro-am (all ages, coed) and expression sessions (under 18, boys and girls divisions).

Pre-registration will be held on Jan. 18 at the PYCC, with an entry fee of $20. Day-of registration is 7-9:30 a.m. on Jan. 19 and costs $30.

The first heat is in the water at 8 a.m. following the event blessing ceremony.

Beachfest will also feature special guests, including world-champion waterman Kai Lenny and world-renowned Kainoa McGee.

Maui AJA baseball season starts Sunday

The Maui AJA (Americans of Japanese Ancestry) Baseball League will open its 89th season on Sunday with a doubleheader at Maehara Stadium in Wailuku.

Asashi’s take on the Maui A’s at 10 a.m., and Daimyo plays Happy Hour at 12:30 p.m. The season runs through March 3.
