Spartans, Pine Lads to face off for MIL Division II tournament crown

The top two seeds in the Maui Interscholastic League Division II boys basketball tournament — Seabury Hall and Lanai — won their semifinal games on Thursday night at “The Barn” in Hoolehua and will meet tonight in the tournament championship game.
No. 1-seeded Seabury Hall rolled past Molokai 75-27 behind four players in double-figure scoring: Kama Konohia with 23, Noah Payne with 16, Kai Preseault with 14 and Carl Molinaro with 10. The Spartans (11-0) led 21-9 after one quarter and 39-16 at halftime.
Leonaka Burrows led the Farmers (6-6) with 14 points.
No. 2-seeded Lanai beat Haleakala Waldorf 59-45. The Pine Lads (9-2) led 19-12 after one quarter and 43-20 at halftime.
Naighel Calderon led Lanai with 15 points.
Patrick Doster had 16 for Haleakala Waldorf (6-6), while La’a Akeo added 10.
Seabury Hall can clinch a 10th consecutive MIL title and lone state tournament berth with a win tonight in the tournament final or in a championship playoff on Saturday. The Pine Lads must win both to advance to next week’s state tournament.
