Rainbow Warriors sweep away Waves for Outrigger title

Another match against a nationally ranked team, another sweep for the University of Hawaii men’s volleyball team.

Stijn van Tilburg had 16 kills to lead the No. 2 Rainbow Warriors’ lethal attack in a 25-18, 25-20, 25-23 victory over No. 6 Pepperdine in the championship match of the Outrigger Resorts Invitational on Saturday night at the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu.

Rado Parapunov had 13 kills and King Kekaulike High School graduate Colton Cowell added 11 to help UH improve to 15-0 on the season — every win has come via sweep.

Cowell also had three assists, six digs, an ace and a block. He hit .588 for the match — the Rainbow Warriors hit .523 as a team compared to .355 for the Waves.

Kaleb Denmark led Pepperdine (13-5) with nine kills.

The Rainbow Warriors next host Cal State Northridge for a pair of matches Friday and Saturday.
