Shimizu leads by four heading into final round at Waikoloa
Baldwin High School graduate Kaylee Shimizu, a redshirt junior on the Utah Valley University women’s golf team, leads the Anuenue Spring Break Classic by four strokes going to the final round today at the Waikoloa Kings’ Course on the Big Island.
Shimizu was at 2-under-par 142 after a 70 after Friday’s second round. Oklahoma State’s Lianna Bailey (146), Han-Hsuan Yu (147) and Michelle Forsland (149) were second, third and fourth, respectively.
Shimizu’s best career finish individually is eighth, which came last month at the Grand Canyon Women’s Spring Invitational in Phoenix. She finished 11th in the Western Athletic Conference tournament last year.
Utah Valley was second as a team at 36-over 612, 12 strokes behind Oklahoma State. Host Hawaii was fourth in the eight-team event, at 617.
