The Maui United Soccer Club’s 2005 boys team had a dominant run as they won their division at the HYSA Hawaii State Cup at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Complex in Waipahu, Oahu, last weekend.

MUSC outscored opponents 15-1 in the three-day tournament. The team defeated Rush Hawaii Nero 5-0, Na Hoa 5-0, Excel Maui 6-1, FC Hawaii 3-1 and Rush Hawaii 1-0.

In Sunday’s final against defending State Cup champion Rush Hawaii, Jacob Grossman found the back of the net in the final minute to give MUSC the thrilling victory. Shortly after subbing into the game, Kaulia Shiroma took a free kick from just outside the 18-yard box, driving the ball to the backside of the net to set up Grossman’s game-winner.

Grossman and Bailey Hoffman each scored seven goals in the tournament, while goalkeeper Jadon Valdez allowed just one goal.
