At least one shot fired by officer at McDonald’s in Wailuku

A police officer fired at least one shot as a stolen vehicle fled following a confrontation at the McDonald’s restaurant on Main Street in Wailuku on Monday afternoon, police said.

No injuries were reported in the incident at about 4:30 p.m., said police spokesman Lt. Gregg Okamoto.

He said officers went to the restaurant to investigate a report of a stolen vehicle there.

“A confrontation occurred and the vehicle fled the scene,” Okamoto said. “As the vehicle was fleeing, at least one gunshot was fired by an officer.”

The vehicle was described as a brown Hyundai Elantra four-door sedan with the front license plate LEK 707. Anyone who sees the car is asked to call 911.

Police were on scene investigating Monday afternoon.

The car was reported stolen Monday after being last seen at midnight on Kaluanui Road in Haiku.
