Maui High beats Baldwin to claim first-round MIL title

The Maui High School football team clinched the Maui Interscholastic League Division I first-round championship Saturday by beating Baldwin 32-21 at War Memorial Stadium in Waiuluku.

Naia Nakamoto and Solomone Tongi each ran for two touchdowns for the Sabers (2-2), who won the round by taking the head-to-head tiebreaker against the Bears.

The touchdowns by Nakamoto and Tongi produced 27 unanswered points for Maui High, which had trailed 8-0 after Chayce Akaka’s touchdown run.

The Bears (2-2) turned the ball over five times.

Akaka also threw a touchdown pass and had a touchdown catch.
