Lunas open state football at home, Sabers at Hilo

Maui Interscholastic League Division II football champion Lahainaluna High School will play its state tournament semifinal against Iolani on Nov. 3 at War Memorial Stadium with a 6 p.m. kickoff.

If the defending state champion and top-seeded Lunas (8-0 MIL, 9-1 overall) win that game, they would advance to the championship game on Nov. 18 at Aloha Stadium at 2 p.m. vs. the winner of the other semifinal between Konawaena and the Oahu Interscholastic Association champion that is yet to be determined.

MIL Division I champion Maui High will play against top-seeded Hilo on Nov. 4 at Wong Stadium with a 7 p.m. kickoff. A win for the Sabers (5-3 MIL, 5-5 overall), who are making their second state appearance since 2001, would send them to the state final on Nov. 18 at 5 p.m. at Aloha Stadium against the winner of a game between Kauai and the Interscholastic League of Honolulu champion to be determined.

The state brackets were released by the Hawaii High School Athletic Association this morning.
