Chaminade beats Cal in Maui Invitational seventh-place game
Notre Dame won the Maui Jim Maui Invitational title Wednesday, beating Wichita State 67-66 in the championship game at the Lahaina Civic Center.
Bonzie Colson scored 25 points for for the Fighting Irish (6-0), No. 13 in The Associated Press rankings, and tournament MVP Matt Farrell finished with 15.
Zach Brown scored 14 points for the sixth-ranked Shockers (4-1), who squandered a 16-point lead.
Chaminade earned its first win in the Maui Jim Maui Invitational in five years, defeating California 96-72 in the seventh-place game.
The Silverswords are now 8-92 in the tournament, which began in 1984. Chaminade’s had lost 16 consecutive Maui games since an 86-73 victory over Texas in a first-round game in 2012.
Dantley Walker scored 23 points for the Silverswords (3-2) on Wednesday, and Erik Scheive had 14.
The Golden Bears (2-4) got 23 points from Justice Sueing.
The last Division I team to finish eighth in the tournament had been Mississippi State in 2012.
