Wichita State reaches Maui Invitational title game
Wichita State advanced to the title game of the Maui Jim Maui Invitational by beating Marqutte 80-66 on Tuesday at the Lahaina Civic Center, and will face Notre Dame, which defeated LSU 92-53 in the other semifinal.
The Shockers (4-0), ranked sixth in the nation by The Associated Press, will face the 13th-ranked Fighting Irish (5-0) for the tournament title Wednesday.
Four players scored in double figures for Wichita State, led by Landry Shamet, who finished with 19 points.
Andrew Rowsey scored 26 points for the Golden Eagles (2-2), who were sent to a meeting with LSU in the third-place game.
T.J. Gibbs scored 26 points for Notre Dame, and Matt Farrell had 17.
Duop Reath was the top scorer for the Tigers (3-1) with 17 points.
Virginia Commonwealth beat California 83-69 in the day’s first consolation game.
De’Riante Jenkins scored 27 points for the Rams (3-2), who advanced to Wednesday’s fifth-place game against Michigan, which beat Chaminade 102-64.
Don Coleman scored 21 points for the Golden Bears (2-3).
Charles Matthews had 22 points and 10 rebounds for the Wolverines (4-1). The Silverswords (2-2) got 15 points from Braden Koelliker.
