Oleinik sends Browne to fourth consecutive defeat
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Aleksei Oleinik defeated Travis Browne of Oahu by submission Saturday in the second round of their heavyweight fight on the UFC 213 preliminary card.
Browne (18-7-1) has lost four consecutive fights, and six of his last eight.
Oleinik improved to 52-10-1.
“This is the biggest win of my career so I feel amazing,” Oleinik was quoted as saying on ufc.com.
Bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes was scratched from her title defense against Valentina Shevchenko in the scheduled main event after being hospitalized earlier in the day.
The UFC cited an “illness” as the reason for Nunes’ hospitalization in its statement. Shevchenko said she believes Nunes’ condition resulted from a drastic weight cut.
“Nunes couldn’t cut weight correctly and was hospitalized,” Shevchenko wrote on her social media accounts.
After Nunes was hospitalized, UFC president Dana White said strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk lobbied for a late-notice fight against Shevchenko.
