UH opens season with five-set loss to Marquette

The University of Hawaii women’s volleyball team began the Robyn Ah Mow-Santos era with a loss on Friday, falling 24-26, 25-21, 25-18, 18-25, 15-12 to Marquette in a Rainbow Wahine Invitational match at the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu.
Hawaii, ranked 20th in the nation, was playing its first match with Ah Mow-Santos as head coach — she took over after Dave Shoji stepped down following 42 seasons at the helm.
Emily Maglio had 14 kills for the Rainbow Wahine, and McKenna Granato added 13.
The Golden Eagles, also playing their season opener, got 12 kills from Hope Werch.
Hawaii will play No. 22 San Diego today.
