Hawaii falls to Cal Poly in five

The University of Hawaii women’s volleyball team lost 23-25, 25-23, 23-25, 25-18, 17-15 to 23rd-ranked Cal Poly on Friday in San Luis Obispo, Calif., missing an opportunity to enter a tie for first place in the Big West standings.

Emily Maglio had a career-high 27 kills for the Rainbow Wahine (15-7, 9-2 Big West), who were swept in a regular-season series by the Mustangs (21-2, 11-0) for the first time since 1985, and lost to them on the road for the first time ever — UH had won the previous 11 times it visited Cal Poly.

McKenna Granato and Kendra Koelsch each had 14 kills for UH and Granato also had 19 digs. Norene Iosia had 60 assists and tied her career high with 18 digs.

Raeann Greisen had 20 kills for Cal Poly. Adlee Van Winden finished with 17.

Hawaii will play at UC Santa Barbara today.
